There is a moment when movement becomes stillness. Costas Varotsos captures that instant in The Runner, a monumental sculpture built from layers of glass and iron. First presented in Omonia Square, Athens, the work later found its home opposite the National Gallery, where its powerful silhouette continues to move through the cityscape. Made from thousands of translucent glass plates, The Runner seems to dissolve and reappear with every change of light and every passing viewpoint. Its fragmented form suggests speed, energy, and the unstoppable rhythm of urban life. A human figure becomes light, motion, and memory, frozen in motion forever.
