Sarantis Karavouzis (1938-2011)
Sarantis Karavouzis was born in Athens. He started painting in 1957. He became acquainted with artists like Giorgos Manousakis, Giorgos Gounaropoulos, Yiannis Tsarouchis, Klearchos Loukopoulos and Dimitris Galanis, who urged him to continue his work. His first teacher was Giorgos Manousakis. He enrolled in Panos Sarafianos’ studio and after a while, he was accepted at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1959 - 1963), in Yiannis Moralis’ studio. At the same time, he studied wall painting and iconography. He has worked as a scenographer, near Giorgos Vakalo, Yiannis Tsarouchis and Yiannis Moralis. In the years 1976-1968, he continued his studies at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, in Paris, on a scholarship by the State of France. He then continued his studies at the École du Louvre, until 1974. In 1984, the Art Critics and Authors Committee of Paris awarded him the Drouant Cartier Prize, for his entire work. He has presented his work in many personal exhibitions, in Greece and abroad.
