Sianti Gallery, at the beginning of the new decade and guided by the principle of harmony, embraces the concept of balance in two dimensions by inaugurating the exhibition “Balancing in Two Dimensions” on Saturday, February 15, 2020, at 12:00 noon. At the time the exhibition was being organized, the great master Demosthenes Kokkinidis passed away. Sianti Gallery dedicates the exhibition to him as a gesture of gratitude for the important body of work he left behind for us all.

In this exhibition, where painting primarily addresses the sense of sight, the viewer is invited to observe the dialogue between a large- and a small-scale work by the same artist. The change in scale affects the structural elements of the work while, at the same time, allowing the participating artists considerable expressive freedom: Paschalis Angelidis, Christos Antonaropoulos, Giannis Valyrakis, Giorgos Kazazis, Sarantis Karavousis, Demosthenes Kokkinidis, Dimitris Koukos, Thanasis Lalas, Lila Belivanaki, Ilias Papaeliakis, Christina Papaioannou, Pavlos Samios, Panagiotis Siagris, Sotiris Sorogas, Konstantinos Tolis, Costas Tsoklis, Dimitra Chanioti and Manolis Charos.

On the other hand, sculpture, combining visual and tactile elements, impresses with its material presence, sculptural strength and ability to enrich the surrounding space. The participating sculptors, Costas Varotsos, Stelios Gavalas, Kyriakos Rokos and Christina Sarantopoulou, although constrained by the nature of their materials, are equally capable of commanding attention, just like the paintings.

Ultimately, the viewer has the opportunity to observe and distinguish the small or larger details that come together to form each artist’s distinctive artistic identity. Does the subject matter of each work, its color palette and artistic style remain the same when the scale changes? Is the artist’s identity condensed, or does it remain intact in each variation? All these questions can be answered by visiting the exhibition at Sianti Gallery.

Throughout the exhibition, we will continue to offer €10 raffle tickets for the chance to win a work by Christos Antonaropoulos and Panagiotis Siagris. The drawing will take place on February 15, 2020, together with our traditional New Year’s cake-cutting ceremony. All proceeds from the raffle tickets will be donated to the SOS Children’s Villages, and one lucky winner will receive the artists’ work. The draw will take place in the presence of Anni Katsouli, a representative of SOS Children’s Villages.
