Through a series of works exploring the power of the gaze, reflection, and the search for identity.
Sianti Gallery is pleased to invite you to the opening of “The Eye of the Creator,” a solo painting exhibition by Lambrini Boviatsou, curated by art historian Ira Papapostolou, on Friday, November 6, at 19:00.
Through a series of works exploring the power of the gaze, reflection, and the search for identity, the artist invites viewers into a distinctive visual experience in which the boundaries between the observer and the observed become blurred.
At the heart of the exhibition lies the human eye, not merely as an organ of sight, but as a symbol of consciousness, self-awareness, and spiritual exploration. Drawing inspiration from René Magritte’s The False Mirror, Lambrini Boviatsou investigates the relationship between what we see and what we truly perceive. Her oversized, expressive eyes, often reflecting her own image, become mirrors of an inner reality that is at times revealed and at others remains enigmatic.
As exhibition curator Hera Papapostolou observes:
“The artist’s eye becomes the eye of the Creator, contemplating the mystery of the universe in an attempt to discover the self and the Supreme Being who sees all.” In her paintings, the gaze extends beyond observation. It becomes a means of communication, a vessel for emotions and personal experiences, and a starting point for deeper reflection on human existence. Distortions, reflections in mirrors, glass, and everyday objects, along with miniature scenes unfolding within them, create a world where reality meets imagination and self-portraiture acquires symbolic and spiritual dimensions.
Oil painting occupies a central place in the exhibition, allowing the artist to emphasize gesture, materiality, and the human presence within the creative process. At a time when artificial intelligence is continuously expanding the possibilities of digital imagery, Boviatsou’s painting champions the uniqueness of handmade art and the creative power of imperfection.
The artist believes that the more artificial intelligence advances, the more essential human creativity will become, with personal vision and lived experience remaining irreplaceable. “The Eye of the Creator” is an invitation to look beyond the surface of things. To question who sees, who observes, and who is ultimately revealed through the act of looking. For when confronted with the artist’s gaze, the viewer is no longer a passive observer, but becomes part of a dialogue with the self, the world, and the unseen dimensions that surround them.
