He has studied at the American Artists School. In 1951 he co-signed the manifesto of an avant-garde movement, later known as \u201cabstract expressionism\u201d. This famous New York group (including J. Pollock, B. Newman, M. Rothko and W. De Kooning), who were then given the negative characterization \u201cThe Irritables&#8221;, wrote an open letter which was published on the front page of the \u201cNew York Times\u201d, declaring their resent towards the Director and the art critics of the New York Metropolitan Museum, regarding the \u201cAmerican Art Today\u201d exhibition. Theodoros Stamos was the youngest among them. In 1970, his close friend, Mark Rothko, committed suicide. This tragic event shook him deeply and decided to return to Greece, spending his time between New York and Lefkada. His works are exhibited in some of the greatest museums, in Europe and the United States, as well as in many private collections.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/header>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/siantigallery.com\/en\/silkscreen-printing-method-giclee\/\">Silkscreen<\/a> hand signed and numbered by the artist.
